In December 2021, the Ukrainian government established a voluntary territorial defense force to help Ukrainians defend their homes as “weekend warriors.”  They were to work their usual jobs but do exercises and drills in their spare time. The territorial defense units were meant to protect their own towns and villages.

According to the Kyiv Independent paper, “these formations must ensure security and order behind the frontline, assist the Armed Forces in combat operations, guard key infrastructure facilities, and render assistance in combating hostile subversive activities in their local areas” (Jan. 7). Because the forces are made up of local volunteers, they have effectively identified saboteurs.

The Ukrainian Territorial Defense Forces, in most cases, has only been provided with guns and ammunition. These individuals need the basics, such as helmets, boots, and bulletproof vests. UCC-SB is fundraising to help two groups in Ukraine, making or buying materials for the Ukrainian Territorial Defense Forces. These groups are responding to requests for supplies from anywhere in Ukraine.

Ukraine is at war, fighting the Russian invasion. Ukraine is fighting for its existence and sovereignty. Russian troops, with the approval of russian political regime, are bombing hospitals, schools, universities, and other crucial infrastructure, as well as people's homes. There are a lot of injured Ukrainians not only on the battlefield but also in many cities and villages of Ukraine that are bombed or attacked by russian drones daily. 

Saskatoon UCC understands the urgent need to save as many Ukrainian lives as possible. Therefore we consistently fundraise and provide medical assistance to Ukrainian children's hospitals, general hospitals, and military medics. 

Vacuum-assisted closure devices, modular fixators, ambulances, operating tables, tactical medical kits, and many other medical devices are all urgent needs in Ukraine.

We've already sent over 80 packages of medical supplies and helped purchase a number of medical devices. Please, help us save innocent lives today by contributing to our cause and supporting our fundraisers!

We want to sprinkle Saskatchewan with Sunflowers and Wheat in our gardens, yards, our towns, cities and farms.

Sunflowers are the national flower of Ukraine. They represent peace, unity and love. Enjoy watching your sunflowers grow where you plant them. 

Ukraine and Saskatchewan are known for growing wheat. A sheaf of wheat (didukh) represents the gathering of the generations; past, present, and future. It is the strength and protection of the family and homeland. Enjoy watching your wheat grow in your garden and among your flowers.
